To do well on the Australian citizenship test, study the official Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond booklet, pay close attention to Australian values, and practise with online tests. To pass, you must score at least 75% overall and answer all 5 Australian values questions correctly.
Study plan and practice
- Use the official booklet: Read Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond carefully, since the test questions are based on it. Focus on Australian history, democratic beliefs, laws, and national symbols.
- Master the 5 Australian values questions: You must answer all five values questions correctly (100%). They cover topics such as freedom of speech, equality, and respect.
- Take free practice tests: Use online practice tests to get used to the format and pinpoint areas you need to review.
- Know the test format: The test is in English and includes 20 randomly selected multiple-choice questions.
On the day: key tips
- Prioritise key topics: Spend extra time on democratic beliefs, rights, and liberties.
- Review in advance: Read the booklet at least once end-to-end, then revisit any sections you find challenging.
- Arrive early: Give yourself time to check in, have some water, and settle your nerves.
- Stay calm and pace yourself: Take your time—there is enough time allowed to read each question carefully.
